Ms. Eby's Firsties!
Welcome to First Grade here at Whittier Elementary! My name is Ms. Eby. I am pleased to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year. I am looking forward to having your child in my class this year. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education grades 1-6 from Salisbury University. Prior to that, I received my Associates of Arts in Teaching in Elementary and Special Education from Frederick Community College. Since a very young age, I have always had the passion for working with children. I was employed at Bright Eyes Early Learning Centers for five years as a teacher aide, and since August of 2017, I have been a Substitute Teacher for Frederick County Public Schools.

All About Me
I was born and raised in Frederick, Maryland with my identical twin sister. She looks exactly like me, so don't get confused if you go out and see someone who looks like me, but doesn't recognize you! Something I really enjoy is the outdoors. I love to go hiking and on long walks. In addition to loving the outdoors, I also enjoy dancing. I have danced for 18 years at a dance studio!
Education Philosophy
As unique individuals we all think, act, learn, communicate, and develop differently. We all come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and ways of life. I strive to promote equality and the opportunity for my students to learn from each other by providing rich, engaging, and diverse texts in our classroom. Students are capable of expressing their own positive opinions while discovering who they are. I achieve this by providing an environment that is inviting, accommodating, stimulating, and supporting of each child’s emotional, intellectual, physical, and social needs. My goal is to ensure the curriculum and activities are relevant to the students’ lives and interests while creating a strong classroom community.
First Grade is an exciting year, filled with fun, lots of learning, and new adventures. My goal as your child's teacher is to provide a learning environment that is challenging, but one that also promotes achievable goals for my students. Learning can be tedious, confusing, and sometimes stressful, but as your child's educator I will provide support, encouragement, and variation to ensure your child's success. Even though we are starting the school year virtually, I will ensure to continue my philosophy and beliefs online.The purpose of this website is to provide parents information and a resource to come back to as we experience distance learning together. I cannot wait to meet you!
